Here are some things you should keep in mind after your invoices for goods or services go unpaid.

- Confirm that the debt has not been paid.
- Compile and record the names, addresses, and contact information of each person who owes you money (debtors).
- Compile and preserve all documents (including all invoices) associated with the goods or services you provided to the debtor. This should also include proof that the invoice was sent to the debtor.
- Determine the total amount that is owed to you by the debtor.
- Determine when the goods or services were provided to the debtor, when the invoice was sent to the debtor, and when the funds were to be paid by the debtor.
- Do not do anything that could be construed as harassing the debtor. There are strict rules (including the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act) that apply to creditors regarding collection matters and you do not want to violate those rules and be subject to fines.
- Do not sign a release related to the debt without consulting your attorney.
- If the debtor calls you and wants to negotiate for less than the amount of the debt, refer him or her to your attorney
